February 14 – Cold Day by the Lake

Feb 14, 2019 | Posted by in 2019 February Photofest, Everyday Jade | 5

I have discovered Pixl! This was at the end of our adventure day. I was bundled up next to him in the car, drowsy, satisfied with our day’s ramble. Happy to be sharing this time with him, sharing a mutual interest. A lake by the highway attracted our attention. “I want to take pictures of you by the lake,” he said. We had to double-back to get to it. And there were more cars there than either of us had expected. It was cold. But I couldn’t resist his grin. It was such a beautiful day. Clear, bright, the sunlight like shards of glass, reflecting, prismatic. The sound of geese in the air. The breeze so very cold on exposed skin, on the rings below. It was a good ending to the day.

February 7 – Why TBT is So Damned Hard

I can’t claim this as a Scavenger Hunt because, frankly, I didn’t see “Blackberry Bramble” as a location, nor could I think of anything more generic to claim it as. So, you know, it’s a gimme. It looks like a Scavenger Hunt, but really it’s just me flashing my titties for Adam and Warren’s amusement in a public place. But if I am going to do these “Throwback Thursday” posts, I really have to include this one. Why? Because of the pure joy in these pictures. The happiness. I look at these pictures and I am transported back to that hot summer day… And then, I am boomeranged back to now. No wonder it’s so fucking hard to look at these.

One last day in the sun.

I just realized I never did get around to posting about our last day on vacation. We had bookended the cruise with a day before and after in Ft. Lauderdale. The first night, although it turned out fine, was a bit of a bust – ratty hotel in a kind-of run-down industrial area; us with no real idea of where we were or where we should go; my new walking shoes wearing a hole in my heel. But against all odds we pulled a good night out of what could have been a real disappointment, probably because the two of us are (thank goodness) similar travelers: we seldom let minor setbacks or snafus ruin our mood. This day, while similar in that we had no solid plan when we got in to port, and didn’t know what the hotel would be like (except that the previous experience booking the firstRead more …

Washington, D.C. & Beyond

Nov 10, 2018 | Posted by in Everyday Jade, Who Is Pieces of Jade? | 1

Author’s Note: I meant this to be a day-by-day, but, as so often happens when I plan or make a commitment to this space – I failed. So…while Saturday was actually written on Saturday, the rest…is not actually on the day-of. I traveled to D.C. early Saturday, in advance of a conference I am attending Mon-Thurs for my work. Saturday I’m sitting here in D.C., in a little studio AirBnB, snugged beneath one of the stately brownstones(?) that line these lovely, tree-lined streets. I spent all day walking this neighborhood and the ones nearby (7.5 miles!) after arriving at 9 this morning. I had gotten up at 4 a.m. to catch my 6 a.m. flight here, after getting about 3 hours of sleep…I might have been a bit punch-drunk most of the day. But I wasn’t, not really. I was in the moment, engaged, marveling that I was there –Read more …

And finally, Z

May 24, 2018 | Posted by in A-Z Blogging Challenge, Everyday Jade | 1

I know, I know, it’s been so long that ya’ll forgot I was still doing the alphabet. Sorry about that. Had a little technical difficulty with the photo upload. BUT! Here they are, at last, and here we are, at last, at the letter Z. Z is for Zion Zion National Park, that is. This park has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, I think since I lived in Salt Lake City, when my eldest was a toddler. I never got to go (got back together with his father and so of course my whole life fell apart again, but that’s an old, boring tale.) This tale has a lot more going for it. I am so sad we only had one day there, but eternally grateful that Adam knows me so damn well that he single-handedly made this little side jaunt from VegasRead more …

A New Year’s Eve at the Beach

Round about a month ago, I got the sudden impulse to see the ocean before the year ends. I know, I’d just spent five days in the mountains, and a long weekend at Lake Michigan this past summer, but nothing works to soothe my soul like the sound of waves, the smell of salt water, the sight of the endless horizon of the sea. Adam, being the lovely soul that he is, agreed to indulge me, and we planned a twelve-and-a-half-hour road trip to the Carolina coast on the spur of the moment. And that’s I ended up by the beach for four days over the New Year’s Eve weekend, and I couldn’t have been happier. I had enjoyed my time with Les in the mountains, and felt I was very relaxed there, but after just a couple days away with Adam I realized I probably wasn’t as relaxed as IRead more …

A Coddiwomple Sunday

Aug 4, 2016 | Posted by in Life Before, Memes & Prompts, Scavenger Hunt | 4

Adam and I have re-established what used to be a staple of our free time, when W was alive: the Weekend Ramble. It starts with an idea, a curiosity, an inspiration, and goes from there. I can’t adequately express how much I enjoyed those days with my Guys, and how deeply I have missed them. I am a true Scavenger Hunter at heart, whether that means creating the Calendar Game, bringing the Alphabet Challenge, Rope on the Run and Boobies & Bondage concepts from Fetlife to my blog, playing along with the 12 Days of Christmas, trying every local pizza joint, or junk shopping and yard and estate sale-ing for that perfect side table to refurbish. And, of course, participating in the Scavenger Hunt here. But more than that, it was an opportunity to simply let the day flow around us; to allow serendipity to be our guide; to share inRead more …
